TAPIA,
LINARES & ALFARO, also known as TALIAL,
was founded in 1949 by FELIPE S. TAPIA C. who in the early
days of his professional career participated in the organization
of the Shipping Bureau of Panama. In 1958, Dr. Julio E. Linares
G., joined the firm after completing post-graduate studies
in Spain and Italy. Dr. Linares, a very well known jurist and
politician, was for fifteen years a professor of International
Public Law and Procedural Law at the University of Panama,
and held important public offices, as a member of the National
Assembly 1960-1964; Ministry of the Treasury 1963-1964; and
Minister of Foreign Affairs 1989-1993.
Since its foundation more
than fifty years ago, the firm has been one of the leading
Panamanian law firms, with a well develop and strong practice
in international matters (offshore corporations & shipping
) as well as in the developing of its local practice with major
emphasis in banking, corporate, litigation and intellectual
property law.
All attorneys at the firm have been very active in different areas
within Panama’s academic, business, legal and political
circles. For instance, from the current partners you will find
a former Ambassador of Panama in Washington, a former Vice
Minister of Education and former Law Schools professors. Other
attorneys from the firm have belong to the board of Directors
of the Panama Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture;
the Panama Association of Banking Law, the Panama Association
of Maritime Law, Panama Association of International Lawyers
and the Panama Association of Industrial Property. Senior partner,
Dr. Eloy Alfaro, has been sitting at the Board of Directors
of the Panama Canal since 1997. Among our attorneys you will
also find a former Alternate Supreme Court Justice, a former
Substitute Judge to the First Superior Court of Justice of
Panama and Judge of the Third Court of Justice of Panama as
well as professor of Civil and Mercantile Law from the most
prestigious universities in the country.
The new offices of TALIAL
are located at the modern Capital Plaza Building, 15th floor,
Roberto Motta Boulevard, in Costa del Este, the zone of major growth in Panama City, a few minutes
from the center of the city and from Tocumen International Airport.
We have a staff of more than thirty persons, including
well trained secretaries and several assistants supporting
lawyers in their daily work.
