Admiralty Law and Litigation
More than 20,000 vessels of all types and sizes cross the Panama Canal annually, demonstrating that this waterway is a mandatory route for a significant number of ships engaged in international trade. This has made Panama an ideal center for the securing of preferred maritime liens. Tapia, Linares and Alfaro has an experienced team to represent the interests of ship-owners, charterers, insurers, cargo owners, and P/I clubs, before the Panamanian Maritime Courts.
Panama boasts of the largest merchant fleet in the world. Tapia, Linares and Alfaro has been characterized, since its beginnings, as one of the pioneering firms in the registration of vessels in the Panamanian registry. Our Shipping Department is in charge of obtaining all the necessary documentation for a vessel’s registration under Panamanian law, including regulatory navigation patents, radio licenses and other necessary certificates.
The firm has been involved in advising ship-owners as well as financial and credit institutions in the preparation and registration of naval mortgages, purchase/sale and charter agreements, as well as the granting of legal opinions related to these operations.
